My Wings

It says Paid in full.

Twenty year loans

gone.

Monthly payments

gone.

Hundreds of dollars

every month,

thousands of dollars

every year,

tens of thousands of dollars

over decades.

An education now sways in the sky,

a pendulum as light as a feather,

confined only by my mind.

Beams of light are bursting from my fingers and toes,

shouldn’t I change somehow on the outside?

Maybe grow a halo or wings.

Wear a sign that celebrates this?

Cut the chain that was tying me until 46?

No.

But I know it is true.

And I know this is not

the end but the beginning.
